While on the campaign trail, Donald Trump won the support of every white supremacist group across the board, and his racist policies have emboldened the worst in our society. Still, the former reality show star is feigning respect for Martin Luther King on the anniversary of the civil rights leader’s assassination. Trump’s hypocrisy was not lost on Twitter users. We all remember the Nazis storming the streets of Charlottesville in Trump’s name just last year.
Today we honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on the 50th anniversary of his assassination. Earlier this year I spoke about Dr. King’s legacy of justice and peace, and his impact on uniting Americans. #MLK50 Proclamation: https://t.co/XXtPO0VX5A pic.twitter.com/SH0esMSyMT

The responses were swift.
Dr. King would be ashamed that America elected a racist demagogue like Donald Trump #MLK50

How hypocritical for a POTUS, who despises the disenfranchised populations that Dr. King fought so hard to uplift, to tweet out in honor of man he would’ve considered a “race baiter” or called a “son of a bitch” or thought descended from ancestors from “shithole” countries?

You dishonor #MartinLutherKing every day, you racist orange fuck.
— Botmac Botlin 🤖☘️ (@brezzo) April 4, 2018
Yet race relations still suck and you do all you can to poke at the fire. He would think you were a disgrace to all he fought for.

Every day your actions disrespect Dr King. You should be ashamed.
— Dana Olita Ogden (@danaolitaogden) April 4, 2018
You shut the fuck up.
— ted washington (@tedwa) April 4, 2018
STFU, trump. Your racist tendencies came full bare after Charlottesville. MLK spoke against your ilk.
— R. E. Walker, III (@CodeMaker256) April 4, 2018
You racist son of a bitch. You show contempt for our country’s first black President at every opportunity. How many times did you try to smear him with your demand to see his birth certificate, which of course he showed…unlike YOU who won’t show his tax returns…just STFU!!
— Gary Lyons (@garysezhello) April 4, 2018
Dirt bag, you’re turning everything Dr king worked and dreamed of back. Racist man.
— kathy (@kalbright1230) April 4, 2018
And throughout your entire campaign you disrespect black people and minorities. How dare you!
— Shaf Patel 💎 (@ShafPatel) April 4, 2018
You called white supremacists waving Confederate flags and chanting Nazis slogans “very fine people,” and you’ve hired unapologetic racists in your administration. Don’t even pretend to give a damn about Martin Luther King.
— Miranda Yaver (@mirandayaver) April 4, 2018
Trump, you are not fit to even speak his name.
You are a racist, mentally ill old man.
— Sayit Straight (@fivo666) April 4, 2018
and what he accomplished you would are trying to undo ….. ‘so many good people on both sides’ one of your most repulsive comments ever…. it will never be forgotten.

Rep. John Lewis, a civil rights icon, is another black man Trump has lashed out at.
50 years ago today, I learned the painful news that my friend, my mentor, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. had been assassinated in Memphis, TN. He was my brother, my leader–that day it felt like something died in all of us. pic.twitter.com/WkjkxJvXTC

Trump’s next executive order will be to rename Martin Luther King Jr. Day to ‘James Earl Jones Day.’
