The National Rifle Association is getting desperate. The more they speak, the more they sound like the kind of monsters who would attack child survivors of a mass shooting at their high school just for standing up for what they believe in.
That’s not really a surprise, though — The NRA has long been using disgusting tactics, statements, and positions to try and undermine any effort in America to get a handle on the crisis of gun violence in this country that has only gotten worse since the assault weapons ban expired 14 years ago.
Because Donald Trump has no real politics of his own — he only recently adopted Christianity, he only recently began opposing abortion, etc. — it’s clear to those that surround him that he can be made to say whatever they want him to say. For that reason, the NRA has been extra happy about this presidency, since they depend on brainless idiots blindly repeating everything they feed them about guns and violence.
So when Trump sat down on Wednesday with members of Congress to have a meeting about gun policy and potential reforms, the NRA’s shrill, horrid spokeswoman Dana Loesch was eager to “live-tweet” the entire affair — she thought it would be chock-full of NRA-friendly soundbites that they could integrate into their next propaganda video they’d release on NRA TV.
All that soon came to a screeching halt:
NRA’s Dana Loesch promptly stopped livetweeting the Trump/Congress meeting after Trump said “I like taking the guns early. Take the guns first, go through due process second.”

I like taking the guns early. Take the guns first, go through due process second.”
THAT is definitely not in the NRA script.
But the fact is, Trump’s main concern is being popular. There is a very popular movement in America right now that wants to see comprehensive gun reform, and Trump — if he knows nothing else in the whole world — knows ratings win. He will say and do whatever’s necessary to get on that bandwagon. That did not sit well with Dana, and within hours she was on Fox News, denouncing Trump’s plan to remove guns from people who are suspected of being mentally ill or planning an attack:
.@DLoesch: “The NRA is also going to protect due process for innocent Americans, and that is an approach that we are going to hold to. Due process must be respected…it is a foundational principle of this country.” #TheStory pic.twitter.com/DzCFowEsYN

The NRA will forever keep trying to derail any gun reforms. And we don’t actually know that Trump will stick to anything he’s said up until this point.
But it sure is fun thinking of how pissed off the NRA was.
